Production of electricity from wind and hydro power is rather stable throughout the day. However, consumption of electricity is at its highest in the morning and the evening.

All of us can agree that pollution from fossil cars is not wanted, thus, this is the reason for the push for the use of electric cars in many countries. However, an electric car is one of the highest energy consuming devices in our home. Since most of us are plugging in the car when we arrive at home in the evening to start the car charging right away, this would generate even more load in the energy consumption in the evening.

If nothing is done, the growth in EV cars would require a large expansion of electricity production and distribution. As an example, with a growth of 1 million electric cars, the additional power needed is as much as second biggest city of Norway.

During night time, there is available capacity in both generation and distribution of electricity. To move the charging from the evening to the night will help a lot. But often is the electricity at its cheapest during some random hours during the night. For the owner of the car, it is important to be able to move the charging to the night and when the electricity is at its cheapest.
